I am Kang Zhou, a Chinese language lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. During the 2023-2024 Fall semester, in the course 21G.109, we initiated a project named ‘MIT Bilingual Tour Guide.’ The primary objective of this project was to harness the bilingual capabilities of our students and offer an insider’s view to the public regarding MIT’s campus culture, fundamental values, and hidden treasures that may be challenging for tourists to discover. Our goal was to provide a more comprehensive understanding of MIT, especially to international visitors, particularly those whose native language is Chinese and may not be proficient in English.

Through the establishment of this website, we also reaffirmed the value of language learning and the significance of bilingual or multilingual skills as a foundation for effective communication and understanding.

This website will receive ongoing updates. Currently, it boasts an abundance of information about campus attractions. In the future, we intend to invite students to share their experiences in academic research, university life, multicultural activities, and more. Our objective is to present a more comprehensive and profound insight into MIT to the public.

I wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the students for their dedication and the time they invested. I hope that their language learning journey propels them to explore the world from fresh perspectives and venture even further. I would also like to express my appreciation to my co-instructors, Yang Yang and Man Zhang, for their invaluable guidance and support to our students throughout this course.
